The Journey Ahead

A clear step-by-step path from research to arrival at your new university.

1

Research & Apply to University

Browse courses on Educationinireland.com. Most universities require IELTS 6.0–6.5 (UG) or 6.5+ (PG). Apply directly to universities from October onwards; major deadlines typically fall February–March.

2

Receive Offer & Pay Deposit

On receiving an offer, pay the tuition deposit and pre-pay at least €6,000 of fees (required for visa-national students). This payment confirmation is a core visa document.

3

Apply for the Long-Stay Study Visa (Type D)

Submit online via the AVATS system, then attend a VFS Global biometric appointment. Documents needed: university offer, proof of €10,000+ in funds, 6-month bank statements, travel insurance, and passport. Allow 4–8 weeks.

4

Arrive & Register with ISD

Within 90 days of arrival, register at your local Immigration Registration Office to receive your Irish Residence Permit (IRP) card — Stamp 2. This gives you legal permission to study and work 20 hrs/week during term.
